OTELCO announced today that as of February 1, 2022, approximately 700 locations in Westbrook are now eligible for symmetrical Gigabit Internet service, one of the fastest Internet speeds available. These are the first locations to gain access to OTELCO’s build out of Fiber to the Premise (FTTP) Internet services in Westbrook, which will ultimately result in the construction of 80 miles of fiber network to serve approximately 7,200 locations in town.

“What many people don’t appreciate until they actually use fiber is that access to a Gigabit of speed is providing a connection that is twice as fast as 500 Mbps, which many have previously considered a fast connection,” commented OTELCO CEO Richard Clark. “Plus, fiber allows for symmetrical speeds, meaning equal download and upload speeds, which is a huge benefit to households that are active online. We are very excited to bring the choice of symmetrical fiber connectivity to Westbrook.”

“Having Fiber to the Premise connectivity available, even in portions of Westbrook, is great for the community,” commented Westbrook Mayor Michael T. Foley. “Aside from the obvious ability for remote school and work, this technology enhances access and choice and is also an economic development catalyst.”
OTELCO’s fiber construction in Westbrook will continue in phases until it is complete in late February or early March. As each area is complete, OTELCO will contact interested residents to begin scheduling installations.
